homemade babylegs

I saw somewhere how someone made those cute little babylegs out of a pair of knee-high socks, instead of paying a ton of money for them. So very clever and super easy.

Loving the idea, I bought these socks at the beginning of the summer for $1, but never got around to making the babylegs out of them. But with Boop crawling around and it getting a little more chilly, I decided to whip them up. Only took about 15 minutes.
E ended up using them to make super hero arm things that I guess help him fly. So I made some for him also.
These are so great, they keep her legs warm but make it super easy to change her diaper. So now I am keeping my eyes out for really cute socks so I can make a bunch more for her!

52 weeks :: 23

The whole point of the 52 Weeks project is to make sure that I am getting in front of the camera with my kiddos, since so many pictures get taken by me and very few of me with my children. Same is true for pictures of me and my wonderful husband. So, I am going to throw this one in. We look pretty darn cute here. I love my hubby!

rocky mountain high

So, yeah, we had to hit the mountains again to capture how beautiful it is up there right now. We went fishing, had a picnic, hiked around, watched the river.

I love fall and all the colors. Alot of golden yellow and just a bit of orange and red. Happy colors.
You know, for as much as I think about and talk about living somewhere else, days like this really make me appreciate what an amazing place it is we live. So easy to forget, but takes just a little sunshine and the sound of the river to remember. A lovely day...

inspired by nature and real people

Today for our art group, I thought it would be fun to do some nature collages inspired by this new season that has appeared in all it's glory. We were in the mountains the other day and it is so unbelievable beautiful right now in Colorado. I wish we had had the camera with us so I could show you. Might be reason to take another drive...

To get things started, we went hunting around the yard for some fun things to make collages with. We found leaves, rocks, bark, dirt, pine cones and pine needles. We even found some bear poop, but decided to leave that alone..

And then the kids got to work.

We busted out the paint and it got really messy, I think kids should always have paint on their hands.. or feet, or hair...
.......................................

While we were waiting for our friends to arrive, Chubbas was chomping at the bit to get started, so I gave him some markers to do a little drawing while he waited. He proceeded to draw his first ever family portrait of all of us!

And then a picture of his friends...

Amazing-real people! Very cool to see your kiddo move from scribbling to drawing recognizable pictures. He also drew his house and his toy box. Obviously, the most important things to this 3 year old! I am forever dazzled by the creative process being expressed by these young minds. It is truly wonderful.

a visit with friends

So nice to see people we haven't seen in a long time. I love these kind of friendships that stand the test of time, where we don't have to see them very often, but when we do, I feel like I can relax and just be myself.
And when they bring along their newest addition, it makes catching up even more fun!! Look at this sweetie pie, only 12 days old...
And whenever E can play and be a boy with other boys, it's always a good thing.

why i don't love playgrounds...

We hardly ever go to the playground, you know swings, slides, etc. I have been wondering why that is. Seems lots of people take their kids to the playground quite a bit, but we rarely go. I've blamed it on that we only had one car and no parks within walking distance. But, now we have 2 cars and we haven't gone to a park since that happened.

Then, yesterday, we met some friends for a nature hike. And while the kids were climbing around and digging in the dirt and hunting sticks, it hit me. I don't really like playgrounds. I much prefer to take my kiddos out in nature somewhere and let them climb on rocks and run around in the grass. It is way more fun for ME! I like seeing them playing in the mud much more than climbing on those plastic man made structures. It is so much more beautiful and captivating watching them discover bugs and flowers and things.

Don't get me wrong, I know there is great fun to be had swinging and sliding and whatnot. And, I know E likes playgrounds, but he even seems to get bored after a bit. Give that boy a pile of dirt and he can play for hours...

So, I think we will save the playgrounds for occasional romps and dizzy fun, but have little nature spaces be our regular play spots.

Doesn't she look like a fairy princess?

what I woke up to..

"Mama! There is a bear in my yard."

"Oh, really..." (trying to go back to sleep)
"Come look, Mama, a bear is out there!"
Sure enough, a sweet little baby bear playing in the yard. I'm sure his Mama was around somewhere as well (though not so sleepy).

art group - collages

This week we made collages with the kiddos. We started with a couple of different types of paper and a few pieces of cardboard to glue everything to. Then I put out big piles of yarn and ribbon to cut, fabric scraps, some stuffing cotton, a few buttons, glitter, pasta and colored paper. We demonstrated a little bit to give the kids an idea of how to work with the materials but then we let them make whatever they wanted with everything.

I love what they made, so pretty!
