i heart faces - black and white

Yay! I just forced myself to download a TON of pictures that have been stockpiling on my camera. What that means is that I will be tackling the daunting project of playing blog catch up, hopefully before I head out of town for the weekend. Which, by the way, is my first EVER weekend away from my daughter... Big deal, very big deal! Wish us luck on that one!

In the meantime, since I missed last week, I wanted to make sure to get my entries in for this weeks I Heart Faces photo contest.

This week's theme is black and white. I decided this would be the perfect opportunity for me to start tinkering around with my camera and take some new pictures to enter. After an afternoon (enjoying our fabulous weather) of taking a gazillion pictures, playing with the manual settings on my camera, here are my 2 favorites...

This gorgeous little girl was just so cute today, it was REALLY hard to pick out my favorite picture, but I love how dark her eyes are in this one, and well, I know I'm biased, but she is pretty darn cute - don't you think?

Here is my super cute hubby looking a little like Elvis.. hmmm, big surprise?

Ok, should be getting flooded with catch up posts in the next few days...

the cranky old woman I love

My Granny had a birthday on Monday. 85 years...Wow! We took her some chocolate cupcakes. All week long I have been thinking about her and her life, the stories she has told us over the years. I can honestly say old age and my Granny don't really mix too well. When I think of this wonderful woman, who helped raise me, I think Feisty, Bold, Crass, Silly, and totally Loving. You can tell she is hating growing old, just hating it! It makes me sad. I have no idea what to do to help her. Help, I am sure, is not what she needs or wants. But, none the less, every time I see her, I feel so helpless....

All week I have been thinking about her and her life and the woman she is and was. The kind of mom and grandmother she was to her children and to us growing up. I hope I don't grow old and bitter, I hope I can keep alive and present for myself the love and the joy I feel right now being with my own children.

I found this poem that I thought was pretty cool. It made me also think of my children and wonder what they will be like 80 or more years from now. What kind of old man will Chubbas be? Will Boop just want to smoke and drink her last days away, a cranky old lady? I hope not, but the path they choose to take is beyond my control.

Youth, Day, Old Age and Night
by Walt Whitman

Youth, large, lusty, loving-youth full of grace, force, fascination,
Do you know that Old Age may come after you with equal grace, force, fascination?

Day full-blown and splendid-day of the immense sun, action, ambition, laughter,
The Night follows close with millions of suns, and sleep and restoring darkness.

I hope my Granny's feisty stubbornness helps her stick around for many more years. She loves my kiddos so much, I can tell they bring her much joy. Maybe that's what I can do to help, go see her more, bring the kids to her more often. Let them bring her some happiness and purity and most importantly some peace. I really want my children to have strong, happy memories of this crazy old woman we call Granny Goose, who I love so very very much.

silly face

This weeks I heart Faces theme is silly...

Wow, I was surprised to find not too many silly pictures on my computer. I guess I am joining in on the silly fun instead of taking pictures when the moment takes over.. But, I did find this one:

Chubbas loves to play dress up and here you have the "superhero-clown-fireman" costume!! Oh the dialog that went along with this outfit!

I can't wait to see the winning photos this week, there are lots of super cute pictures over there that will just make you smile.

bonkers

Wow, have I been busy!! I don't feel overwhelmed too often, but right now I do... I am just behind on things, working alot, blah blah blah...

So, not much time to sit and write too much, but thought you all might enjoy a few cute pics, so here you go...

Playing with Daddy..
Our silly neighborhood friends...

Enjoying the sunshine...

Pigtails, yes, the cutest thing EVER!

And our cute little Hop-a-long, playing with the toys...

Things should be settling down around here over the next week or so. You'll know they have when you start hearing more from me again. :)

i heart faces - the eyes have it

I am really loving playing along with the I Heart Faces weekly photo contest. This week's theme is "The eyes have it." I was looking through some recent pics and found this one that so captures the spirit of this baby girl.

This week is also their first pet photo contest. So here is a cute picture I somehow managed to get of Hop-a-long. Yes, E changed his name!! He gets mad now if we call him Eagle. "His NAME is Hop-a-long!" Which is a pretty cute name, so we have accepted that the cool hippie name is no more.

Anyway, here is our cute little bunny, who I just love so much! By the way, bunnies are fun pets....

Lots of amazing, wonderful photos over there, go take a peek!
